January 2026 - Cheer
Head Varsity Cheer Coach Jill Clark, with the support of her assistant coaches, Varsity Coach Bella Williams, and JV Coaches Alyssa Lozano and Talia Page, this year’s Grossmont cheer season has been incredibly successful. According to Jill, “Our staff and administration at Grossmont give our program so much support; it’s truly a great place to be.”
“In November we competed at our first regional competition of the season to qualify for Nationals. Our JV team, second place winner, earned a bid to attend Nationals in February. Our Varsity team won first place in their division and were Level Champs, the highest scoring team for all categories, as well as Grand Champions, the highest scoring team in the entire competition. The team qualified for the JAMZ Cheer Nationals, receiving a paid bid to attend Nationals in Las Vegas.
Our JV team competed at a new competition FNL (Friday Night Lights) this season, where they placed 2nd. They head to Nationals in February, competing one last time this season.
In December, our Varsity team competed at the CIF Championships with 65 teams in the Southern CA region, winning their 3rd straight title in the D 3 Large Division.
We head to Nationals next month, hoping for another National Title. Last year our program “set the bar high” with an undefeated season. Our athletes this year have continued to improve, pushing themselves mentally and physically in hopes of having another season like last year.
I am so proud of our team and how they show up for one another. They are so special and extremely humble. Grossmont Cheer has an amazing staff with extremely dedicated coaches who work really hard each day to build this program. Next season, we will move up to a higher division/level. “
In the GHS Museum, our earliest cheer outfits and displays date from the 1940s, revealing an 80 year tradition of spirit. Several cheerleaders reflected on this season.
Junior Fiona Edwards, third year cheerleader, “Our program has been so successful over the years because of strong teamwork, dedication, and effort. Also, much credit is due to our amazing coaches Jill Clark and Bella Williams, who push us to be the best humans in and out of the gym.”
Senior Nayeli Grijalva, “The thing I love most about being a Foothiller cheerleader is the family that comes with it. The girls that I have met over the past 4 years are… people that I hope will stay in my life for a long time.”
Senior Frankie Ficalora, “It is not only a privilege to be a part of the program, but also a win in itself to say not only was I a CIF Champion Cheer leader, but my team won it 3 times in a row….It is a memory that will be passed down to my children, strongly encouraging them to do something they love.”
