Steve Martin, Class of 1988

steve martin 1988Steve Martin served as Corporal in the Army and National Guard for eight years. In 2008, he was injured in Afghanistan by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on operations as a State Department contractor.

As a result of his injuries, Martin lost both legs below the knees. Since his injury, Steve has run many full marathons, triathlons, competed in track and field, scuba dives regularly, teaches spin classes at his gym, does Cross Fit, and plays softball.  Steve has also climbed mountains, including a successful summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa and  Mount Denali and hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim.

Steve retired in 2017 as an Arizona State Trooper after 22 years as a police officer, the last 9 as a double leg amputee, the only double leg amputee in the country serving as a patrol officer.  Today, Steve is an active Move United Warfighter Ambassador giving his time to help other injured warfighters.

“We need to make sure our sick/injured vets are not forgotten.…The ones we serve now will never get better, but they have earned the title of veteran. Move United Warfighters is such an important part of the continuing treatment, both mentally and physically, of so many veterans and their families.”

Steve Martin’s injuries, as severe as they were, changed his life dramatically and gave him opportunities he never thought he would have. “Since I’ve been wounded, I’ve had a great life,” he said. “It was really, really bad day that day, but I’ve had a really, really good life.”
