Jim was excited to be honored in 2015 and was looking forward to the History of the Instrumental Music Program Book, which traces the 95 year history of the program. A San Diego resident since 1959, she taught Phys Ed for 30 years mostly at Grossmont HS. She is remembered as professional, on the ball, proficient and an excellent coach. A highlight of her career was accompanying a Community Girls Track and Field Team to Russia. She also taught First Aid and CPR for the Red Cross and Lifeguarded at Gillespie Field.
Richard was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served in the Second Armored Divison Military Band. He attained his goal of being a coach and physical education teacher at Grossmont High School, La Mesa, Calif., for 34 years, where he especially enjoyed coaching boys' soccer and track.
Toni filled her life with teaching children, writing poetry and reading. She earned a Master's Degree in Education from San Diego State and taught special ed students at Grossmont High School for 25 years.
Gordon "Gordy" Shields of El Cajon , California passed away on Sunday, June 30th at the age of 95. Gordon is survived by his loving children son Gordon Scott Shields of Lodi California, daughters Valerie Shields, Susan McKeown both from San Diego. Gordon was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on April 20,1918 to Leopold and Nellie Shields. When Gordon was a young man he joined the United States Navy and after being released from the navy Gordon went back to school and got his master's degree in teaching. He taught at Grossmont High School for many years and also became a student counselor at Grossmont College.
