| "Frances Gotkowitz Endowment Honors an Acute Mind and Generous Spirit Frances Gotkowitz changed the course of many lives during her 45 years. Frances died in September 2003, but her dedication to improving the lives of young people endures through the Frances Gotkowitz Endowment for Youth Philanthropy, recently established in her honor by her mother, Helen Gotkowitz. “This wonderful gift is so meaningful because of Frances’ strong connection with youth and her commitment to giving,” said Marjory Kaplan, CEO. “Frances’ experience in education set the course for the JCF’s Youth Philanthropy program.” Ten years ago, Frances worked with JCF staff to evaluate the first ever Community Youth Foundation. Frances conducted interviews with teen participants to assess the program’s impact. Since then, more than 220 teens have participated in the Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy programs. A talented and creative teacher, Frances tutored B’nai Mitzvah and other students in Hebrew, taking a special interest in students with learning disabilities. She imbued confidence and self-assurance through her affirming teaching methods. In her later years, Frances revived long-deferred plans to enter graduate school. In 2001, she was awarded a San Diego Fellowship to join UCSD’s Ph.D. program in Comparative Literature. She was deeply engaged in her studies, and had the unique ability to make every experience, positive or otherwise, a learning experience for others. May her memory be a blessing." |

| As most or all of you know, our friend and partner, Susan McNally, has been waging a courageous battle against cancer. This morning at 12:12am, surrounded by her family, Susan peacefully passed away. We send our deepest appreciation to all of you who took the time to visit, and send food and gifts during Susan's illness. Thank you for all of your calls and messages to Susan, both directly and through our Firm. Susan's family, as well as her Gilchrist & Rutter family, have greatly appreciated all of your demonstrations of love and support for Susan. | "San Diego Homeless People -Over 100 people of faith came out to a windy corner of the Community Concourse in downtown San Diego this afternoon. While many Christians celebrate today as the Feast of All Saints, and tomorrow as All Souls, the impulse for this remembrance is not just religious. It's getting colder. Even in Southern California you can die of hypothermia. Most of those die on the streets of San Diego don't die of hypothermia. Better to say that they die of neglect. Better to say they die of neglect, but better still to say they are sacrificed. Sacrificed to tax cuts, to welfare reform, to a class war waged by the rich. | "Jeff passed away on July 16, 2010 at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born in La Mesa on March 2, 1957 at Grossmont Hospital to Flo and Clarence Watters. He lived in San Diego County all of his life until he moved to Las Cruces four years ago. Throughout the years he enjoyed camping with his family, the beach, NASCAR and San Diego Padres games. One of his favorite trips was river-rafting in the Grand Canyon with a group of friends, including his dad and two brothers. Jeff started with his first part time job while still in high school. He graduated from Grossmont High School in 1975 and continued a working career in the business world. He was a caring and loving person who would always be there for his family if needed. We will all miss him. Jeff is survived by his sister, Karen Berry, brothers, Douglas Watters (and Kimberly), Gary Watters (and Leslie), his step-mother, Gerry Watters, and his step-sisters, Shirley Buss (and Leslie) and Donna Lafreniere (and Bill), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-brother, Wayne Buss in 2002. A private family memorial will be held, scattering Jeff's ashes at sea as he loved the ocean, and its rhythms will eternally caress him and give him peace." |
